چکیده

For the first time we demonstrate skew of less than 0.25ps / m across a 10-wide graded index multimode fiber ribbon. This sub-picosecond skew extends practical applications of multimode fiber ribbon to include synchronous parallel transmission with an aggregate data-rate distance product of greater than 10Gb / s ⋅km .

Generation of high-quality sub-picosecond optical pulses using a combination of normal and anomalous dispersion fibers

A practical method for generating high-quality optical pulses of sub-picosecond pulse widths is presented. The method uses linear chirp generation in supercontinuum pulses in a normal dispersion fiber. This linear chirp is utilized by an anomalous dispersion fiber to shorten the pulse widths down to a few hundreds of femtoseconds. This compression method results in 0.28-ps 10-GHz optical pulses...

Giant tunable optical dispersion using chromo-modal excitation of a multimode waveguide.

The ability to control chromatic dispersion is paramount in applications where the optical pulsewidth is critical, such as chirped pulse amplification and fiber optic communications. Typically, devices used to generate large amounts (>100 ps/nm) of chromatic dispersion are based on diffraction gratings, chirped fiber Bragg gratings, or dispersion compensating fiber. Unfortunately, these dispers...

Spatio-temporal signature of a multimode optical fibre

Both phase and group velocities of all guided modes of a moderately multimode fibre are experimentally determined from a single sample. Modes are excited by a picosecond optical pulse and spatially separated at the etched fibre end. A picosecond streak camera records their spatial and temporal output coordinates.

A 100-Gb/s-Physical-Layer Architecture for Higher-Speed Ethernet for VSR and Backplane Applications

A high-speed physical-layer architecture for nextgeneration higher-speed Ethernet for VSR and backplane applications was developed. VSR and backplane networks provide 100-Gb/s data transmission in “mega data centers” and blade servers, which have new and broad potential markets of LAN technologies. It supports 100-Gb/s-throughput, high-reliability, and low-latency data transmission, making it w...

Mid-infrared Raman-soliton continuum pumped by a nanotube-mode-locked sub-picosecond Tm-doped MOPFA.

We demonstrate a mid-infrared Raman-soliton continuum extending from 1.9 to 3 µm in a highly germanium-doped silica-clad fiber, pumped by a nanotube mode-locked thulium-doped fiber system, delivering 12 kW sub-picosecond pulses at 1.95 µm. This simple and robust source of light covers a portion of the atmospheric transmission window.
